Drawing from John 3:1-15, this sermon explores the nighttime encounter between Jesus and Nicodemus, a powerful Jewish ruler and member of the Sanhedrin, to unpack what it genuinely means to be a citizen of the kingdom of God. The pastor challenges the notion that ethnicity, religious knowledge, or cultural familiarity with Christianity is sufficient for salvation. Jesus makes clear to Nicodemus that entry into the kingdom of God requires being born again -- not physically, but of the Holy Spirit. This new birth is made possible solely through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and is put into effect in a believer's life by the Holy Spirit. The sermon further draws from Galatians 5 to illustrate what Spirit-filled living looks like in practice, emphasizing that the fruit of the Spirit serves as visible evidence of an unseen spiritual reality to a lost and broken world.
