This sermon from Joshua 10:16-43 emphasizes that God is the hero of His people's story, both in the Old Testament and today. Through the account of Joshua's victory over five Canaanite kings, we learn that God fights on behalf of His people and secures victory for them. While we live in the age of grace post-cross, the imagery of enemies under our feet points forward to Christ's ultimate victory over Satan and death. Christians today don't fight against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces, yet God promises complete victory. The sermon calls believers to not be afraid or discouraged, to recognize when God is moving and not stop that momentum, and to regularly return to places of spiritual refreshment. The ultimate enemy—death itself—will be defeated when Christ returns, not as a suffering servant but as a conquering king.
