Drawing from John chapter 2 and the account of Jesus turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana, this sermon calls believers to look beyond the miraculous act itself and recognize what the sign is pointing toward — the glory of Jesus Christ and the fulfillment of God's long-promised salvation. The preacher establishes that the Gospel of John uses the word "sign" intentionally, because a sign does not draw attention to itself but points beyond itself. The water-to-wine miracle is not simply about rescuing a wedding from embarrassment; it is a revelation of who Jesus is — the true bridegroom, the Lamb of God, the fulfillment of every Old Testament promise of abundance, purification, and restoration. Just as the disciples' faith deepened the more they encountered Jesus, believers today are called to keep growing in their understanding of Christ, trusting him even when they cannot see the full picture of what he is doing, and responding to every fresh glimpse of his glory with deeper faith and obedience.
