Drawing from John chapter 1, verses 24 through 28, this sermon examines the investigation of John the Baptist by the Jewish religious leaders and what his responses reveal about the posture every follower of Christ should adopt. John the Baptist, when pressed by the Pharisees to claim one of three expected messianic figures, refused every title and instead pointed entirely away from himself and toward the coming Christ. His declaration that he was not worthy to untie the sandal of the one coming after him serves as a profound model of humility and Christ-exaltation. The sermon calls believers to fill their one life with making much of Jesus, getting to know him through Scripture and prayer, and placing themselves in his service so that he might be seen and glorified through them.
